  • p.p.e.-personal protective equipment

Personal Protective Equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Personal Protective Equipment may include items such as below:

    • Hand gloves
    • Helmet
    • Safety shoe
    • Goggles
    • Apron
    • Mask
  • tools

Electrical tools are tools used to work on an electrical system. These can include a wide range of tools such as below:

    • Electrician knife.
    • Measuring tape.
    • Pliers: (a) combination pliers, (b) cutting pliers (c) diagonal cutting pliers (d) long nose pliers.
    • Screwdrivers: (a) star, (b) flat, (c) connecting.
    • AVO meter.
    • Multi meter.
    • Megger.
    • Earth tester.
    • Insulation tester.
  • materials

Electrical Material is basically the parts or elements used in the making of any electrical construction project. These can include a wide range of materials such as below:

    • Wire.
    • PVC tap.
    • Earth electrode.
    • Current electrode.
    • Potential electrode.
  • Prepare for works

    1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are collected and worn as per job requirement.
    2. Workplace is prepared as per job requirement.
    3. Tools, equipment and materials are selected & collected as per job requirement.
  • Elements of competency: Perform continuity test using megger

    1. Two terminals of megger are connected with wire terminal of load and moved 1/2 rounds to the continuity test as required standard.
    2. Standard RPM of megger is checked and set to 120 rpm for analog megger to get actual result of voltage & resistance.
    3. Listed value is re-checked and disconnected the terminal followed by Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
  • Elements of Competency: Measure earth resistance using earth tester

    1. Earth electrode is connected to measure earth resistance with earth tester followed by OSH.
    2. Current electrode is set into the ground following maximum distance 20m from earth electrode.
    3. Earth electrode is set at the middle place between the potential electrode and current electrode followed by the OSH.
    4. Maximum distance between current and potential electrode is kept 40m.
    5. Standard earth resistance is kept maximum 5 ohm for plane land and 8 ohms in the mountain area.
    6. Listed value is re-checked and disconnected the electrode followed by OSH.
  • Elements of Competency: Execute insulation resistance test

    1. Power supply is disconnected and the wire connection is separated from MCB / MCCB properly maintain the OSH.
    2. Earth wire and testing wire are connected with insulation resistance tester and another terminal of testing wire is opened.
    3. Meter reading of insulation resistance is taken following 10 seconds' interval to maximum 1 minute.
    4. Meter reading is ensured to minimum 20 MQ & maximum 4000 MQ to ensure standard condition.
  • Elements of Competency: Maintain workplace, tools and equipment & materials

    1. Work area is cleaned in accordance with workplace procedures.
    2. Unused materials are stored for re-use or disposed following workplace procedures.
    3. Waste and scrap materials are disposed with following workplace procedures.
    4. Inventory of tools equipment are conducted and recorded as per checklist.
    5. Tools and equipment are cleaned and stored as per manufacturer's recommendation in appropriate location.
