    UNIT DESCRIPTOR: This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to use tools for electrical works. It includes identifying tools, using hand tools and power tools, performing basic preventive maintenance and maintaining workplace and storing tools and equipment.

    NOMINAL HOURS: 50 Hours

    LEARNING OUTCOME: At the end of this session, learners will be able to-

    In addition to the online course . Physical demonstration is mandatory for this course , so i should go for Blended Course.
    Lets go for 3 week of online course and 1 week of face to face training ( Blended Course ) .

    Total Course :   21 days

    Online Course :  3 Weeks 

                               ( 5 days per week for 1 hour ) 

                                   ( Saturday - Wednesday )

    Face to Face : 1 Week 

                             ( 5 days daily 3 hours and 

                                         1 day final assessment for 5 hour )

    Personal Protective Equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Personal Protective Equipment may include items such as below:

    A power tool is a tool that is actuated by an additional power source and mechanism other than the solely manual labor used with hand tools. Power tools have a power source that allows them to operate automatically and without human. The most common types of power tools use electric motors. These can include a wide range of power tools such as below:

    • Power drills
    • Angle grinder
    • Bench grinder

    Electrical tools are tools used to work on an electrical system. These can include a wide range of tools such as wire and cable cutters, wire strippers, coaxial compression tools, telephony tools, wire cutter/strippers, cable tie tools, accessories, and even more. These can include a wide range of applications such as below:

    • Adjusting
    • Aligning
    • Assembling
    • Boring
    • Clamping
    • Cleaning
    • Cutting
    • Dismantling

    The source is the origin of incoming electricity. In most cases, the electricity source is an outlet, battery, or generator. The power supply works to convert the power from the source into the correct format and voltage. These can include a wide range of power source such as below:

  • Lubricants

    A lubricant is a substance that helps to reduce friction between surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the surfaces move. It may also have the function of transmitting forces, transporting foreign particles, or heating or cooling the surfaces. These can include a wide range of lubricants such as below:

    • Grease
    • Mobil
    • Machine oil

    1. Hand tools, their functions are identified and selected.
    2. Power tools, their functions are identified and
    3. Applications of tools are defined.

  • Elements of competency: Use hand tools

    1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.
    2. Hand tools are prepared for works according to workplace procedures.
    3. Proper hand-eye coordination is applied when using hand tools.
    4. Safety requirements are complied with before, during and after use.
    5. Unsafe or faulty tools are identified and marked for repair according to workplace procedures.

    1. Power sources are recognized.
    2. Power tools are prepared according to workplace procedures.
    3. Route for power supply established in accordance with work safety requirements.
    4. Power tools are used as per job requirement following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

  • Elements of Competency: Perform basic preventive maintenance

    1. Tools are inspected and reported to supervisor as per work place procedure.
    2. Tools and equipment are cleaned according to workplace instructions.
    3. Appropriate lubricants are identified.
    4. Tools and equipment are lubricated as per manufacturer's instruction.

  • Elements of Competency: Maintain workplace and store tools and equipment

    1. Work area is cleaned in accordance with workplace procedures.
    2. Unused materials are stored for re-use or disposed following workplace procedures.
    3. Waste and scrap materials are disposed with following workplace procedures.
    4. Inventory of tools equipment are conducted and recorded as per checklist.
    5. Tools and equipment are cleaned and stored as per manufacturer's recommendation in appropriate location.
