UNIT TITLE: PERFORM INSTALLATION OF EARTHING SYSTEM.
UNIT CODE: CONEIM3014A2
UNIT DESCRIPTOR: This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to perform installation of earthing system test. It includes preparing for works, installing earthing (boring) system, Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB), lightning / surge arrester and maintaining workplace, tools, equipment and materials.
NOMINAL HOURS: 50 Hours
LEARNING OUTCOME: At the end of this session, learners will be able to-
- Prepare for works.
- Install earthing (boring) system.
- Install Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB).
- Install lightning/surge arrester.
- Maintain workplace, tools, equipment and materials.

Lets go for 3 week of online course and 1 week of face to face training ( Blended Course ) .

Face to Face : 1 Week

A circuit breaker is an electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overcurrent/overload or short circuit. Its basic function is to interrupt current flow after protective relays detect a fault.

1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is collected and worn as per job requirement.
2. Workplace is prepared as per job requirement.
3. Tools, and materials are selected and collected as per job requirement. -
- Hole is excavated of the dimension into the ground as per requirement.
- Earth continuity wire terminal is fixed (copper conductor) with the lower part (pull through inner side) of GI pipe as required.
- GI pipe is installed with earth continuity wire (copper conductor) into the ground as per diagram.
- Charcoal and salt are mixed and refilled the hole with layers of sand / soil & compact the soil using rammer as required.
- Reducing socket is fixed at the upper end of the GI pipe & the GI pipe is connected and through reducer socket as standard.
- Cable lugs are punched with earth continuity wire & the earth continuity is connected (copper conductor) wire with earthing bus-bar of MDB as per diagram.
- Connections are re-checked as per circuit diagram & the earth resistance is measured using earth tester.

- ELCB is fixed with the circuit breaker channel of the SDB.
- Insulation is removed of cable terminal using wire striper followed by OSH.
- Cable terminal is connected (phase and earth) with the input and output of ELCB to sub-circuit bus-bar as per diagram.
- Connection is rechecked as per diagram.
- Performance is checked with power supply.

- Hole points are marked into the roof of top floor and the hole is made to the mark point using drill machine.
- Rowel bolt is put into the hole & the surge is fixed arrestors set with rowel bolt.
- Copper conductor is connected with the base point of surge arrestor.
- PVC pipe is installed into the wall from roof to ground point using saddle & the copper conductor is pulled in the PVC pipe.
- Copper conductor is connected with earthing pipe / plate.
- Continuity is rechecked of lighting arrester using megger as required standard.

- Waste and scrap materials are disposed with following workplace procedures.
- Inventory of tools equipment are conducted and recorded as per checklist.
- Tools and equipment are cleaned and stored as per manufacturer's recommendation in appropriate location.
