A Transgender Story

It’s a heart-touching and motivational story of two transgender women Anggun and Lissa from Indonesia. They have given a very good lesson for normal people like us “ You wish to be treated well, and so do we” by this story.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) in Bangladesh

 The bisexual and transgender community is a very small portion of the total population of Bangladesh, who are neglected, trampled and mistreated in society. They are mostly discriminated in the grounds of healthcare, safe-home, and education. According to the Department of Social Welfare survey, there are around 9,285 (Nine thousand Two hundred and Eighty five) Bisexual and transgender in Bangladesh. In every step, they are being deprived of human rights. It has become increasingly important to involve the group, who are the victims of discrimination in the development of the country ensuring their education, rehabilitation, and social security.

We should take different kinds of programs for improving the living standard of the Bisexual and transgender community.

  • Scholarship for the Bisexual and transgender  children
  • Training the 18 years above people to improve their skill and efficiency for a better living
  • Developing their financial condition and ensuring social security
  • Providing old-age allowance for the 50 years and above

Excellent, Bulbul! Well documented and very good point of action you are suggesting with those different kind of programs.

Those are actions focusing on transgender persons themselves, and together with raising awareness campaigns to make people understand the human rights of LGBTI people would be to eradicate the discrimination you mentioned.

How would you make sure an online training programme is inclusive in the cases of Lisa and Angguun? What do you think can make them feel included and not discriminated?

Online training program for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) 

In the context of Bangladesh, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) like Lisa and Angguun's literacy and numeracy skill is low. So they have difficulty reading and write. Written documents or explanations will not be inclusive for them.

For the online training LGBT audiovisual presentations in their own language will be more inclusive. LGBT is use smartphones so it will be easy to access the training program. We have to identify the occupation that they interest to pursue. According to their demand, we have to create video or audio content or animated video content by simulation software for specific tasks in their own language that they can understand and feel interested to learn.     

We have to introduce some motivational speech in training programs that will help them to build confidence to do the job.
